Meet the Team

Carmon Derting
President
I realized early in my Iife that I had a heart for animals and have spent my life rescuing and caring for animals. As a child, living in a rural town in Illinois, I would find injured or abandoned animals ranging from tanks of tadpoles to chipmunks, raccoons, a muskrat and cats and dogs. I would even bring baby mice I would find in the barn into house to care for. I spent many years with a friend whose parents rehabilitated wildlife and learned to care for animals such as monkeys, skunks, possums and even an armadillo.
When I moved to Moses Lake as a teenager, I remember walking from our house on the base to the animal shelter to volunteer, never realizing that decades later I would realize a dream and work there and eventually become the Executive Director.
I currently share my home with a 14-year-old kitty, Mister, my husband’s kitty, Talon, and my soul kitty, Baby Kitty, a tank of fish and a foster dog named Brick.
